The Linux Australia council has two major events a year it participates in directly and needs to ensure the smooth running of the organisation through cooperation with committees.
LCA - each year the LCA team is decided upon based on merit, organisation, and community acceptance. This approved comittee is closely supported by the LA council as stipulated in the LCA HOWTO
Software Freedom Day - this will be mainly run in cooperation by the Advocacy Committee who will in turn work closely with the Software Freedom Initiative as outlined in the SoftwareFreedomDay page.
The Linux Australia council has four major functions it must perform both transparently and competently every year:
- The running of the organisation according to responsible fiscal and legal requirements
The maintenance of the Grants Proposal Scheme for community donations
Reporting to the community on a regular basis and yearly organisation reports. This includes running an open and informative AGM every year (preferably at LCA) and an online election
The support of all sub-cttes and prompt response (and where needed redirection) to enquiries
So basically the LA council is an enabler
The LA council ensures committees that have a specific passion, from education, to press or advocacy have the authority and resources they need to do what they do best.
